Chester Music
Founded in Brighton, UK in the 1860s by John and William Chester, J & W Chester Ltd specialised originally in distributing imported editions of classical music from continental Europe. In time, Chester Music started to attract new composers and can claim to be among the first to publish Stravinsky, Poulenc and de Falla.From the mid-20th century, Chester Music became a flourishing company active in both contemporary classical music and educational publishing. Today, Chester Music publishes some of the most distinguished names in contemporary classical music – including Peter Maxwell Davies, John Tavener, Judith Weir and Kaija Saariaho – as well as leading composers writing for both film & TV and the concert hall - most notably Philip Glass, Ludovico Einaudi, Joby Talbot and Michael Nyman.
